RIFTing and Reading

Summer is doing wonders on my life lately. Yes, it’s been hectic. Yes, it’s thinning the contents of my wallet. But it’s still wonderful. I’ve been out drinking with my co-workers, barbecuing with my friend (an old drinking partner during my teenage years) and his family, and I’m also dating this nice girl.

But, the best of all, despite being busy doing these non-nerdy activities, I’m still able to keep up with my gaming and reading. It’s in moderation though. But you can’t have it all.

I’m only spending 2-4 hours of playing RIFT, as opposed to 8-10 before Summer (and the girl) came along. But those are 2-4 quality hours. I’ll start doing the PvP, World Event and, if I have the materials, Crafting daily quests immediately after loging in. As soon as I’m done with all the quests, I’ll ask in guild chat if anyone is doing dungeons or raid rifts, and then join them. If nobody are doing those, then I’ll queue for Warfronts. By the time I’m done, I’ve earned at least 6 Plaques of Achievements, a couple of Inscribed Stones, or 10,000 Prestige Points.

In the afternoons, around 2:30 PM, sunlight pierces through my tinted window and turns my room into a scalding steam bath. That’s when I stop using my desktop, go down the laundry area in the basement –where it’s nice and cool– and read for maybe 2-3 hours. I’ll only stop to make and eat dinner, watch the news for a bit, and then resume my reading until midnight.

I’ve been doing these things quite systematically and with such discipline. Especially in my reading that I’d even read while I’m in my druken stupor (it gave me migraines the next day). So, now, two weeks into my Summer Reading activity and I’m already 13% into my third book, A Feast for Crows (though I might get stuck in here for a while, since I’ve forgotten most of Song of Ice and Fire’s lore).

So far, my Summer’s going pretty well awesome. My character is progressing well in RIFT, I’ve finished 2 books already (and one was a thousand page thick), I’ve been hanging out with friends, and I’m also dating this nice girl. I hope this continues well.

RIFT Raider!

One of the things I love about being in a mega guild is that there’s always someone trying to form a raid group. So, for an average of 3 hours, these past 3 days, I’ve been doing nothing but closing raid, expert and crafting rifts. Not only it was enjoyable, but it was also very productive.

I earned a lot crafting materials, as well as crafter’s plaques, from those raids. In fact, I got a lot of materials that I put up 5 of my 16 Minor Catalyst to be bid on for only a silver at the auction house. I was drunk that night, and I almost had a stroke when I found out the next day. Luckily, a guildmate bid on it for 2 plats to raise the price, and it ended up selling for 3 plats. Not as much as I wanted, but it’s better than 1 silver. Lesson learned: never use the auction house when drunk.

The raid group that I’ve been running with these past few days also have plans to do Greenscale Blight soon. Some of them have already killed the green fat dragon and knows what to do. But I don’t think I will be able to join them since I don’t have T2 gear yet. I don’t see myself doing a T2 dungeon either. I don’t have time because, instead of raiding, I’ll be reading my eyes off this summer.

I guess it’s off to the Warfronts for me. I’ll just raise my Prestige Rank and earn PvP items, which isn’t bad anymore. This way, I can also keep on reading while waiting for the queue to pop.

Anyways, every Tuesday night, our guild invites the public to join us doing raid, expert and crafting rifts. So, if you want to join us, if you’re a Guardian on Faeblight, please send Foghladha (guild leader) or me (Skron) a tell in-game. I’ll see if we can accommodate you.

Regaining My Planar Legs

I’m back to playing RIFT again after being absent from the game for more than a month (due to a broken graphics card). I have to say that I was a bit overwhelmed by the changes in 1.2 and the fact that I don’t know how to play my characters, and their roles, anymore. It probably took me about two hours to figure things out on my own and regain my sea planar legs.

But, overall, I think 1.2 is pretty neat. Albeit late, here are some of my opinions about the patch.

5th Role! Just before 1.2 came out, I was  having a tough time trying to figure out which of my roles I wanted respecced to a ranged DPS for raiding. So, being a player who doesn’t really read patch notes before the patch comes out, I was pretty elated when I found out about this.

Wardrobe. This is probably the only thing I knew about the patch. So, it didn’t come as a surprise. But I didn’t use it because my main character already looks awesome. Still, it’s a pretty nice feature to have.

Better PvP gear. I hate doing dungeons (although much less than before). But I was forced to do them because early PvP gear (Prestige Rank 2 to 3) prior to 1.2 sucks. In the new patch, they improved all, if not most, of the PvP items. They even included chest pieces and leggings for Prestige Rank 2. So, I was able to spend my favor to get those, and now my character has everything in purple.

There are still some stuff that I haven’t tried though. I have yet to try the Gilded Prophecy and do a “crafting raid”. But I’ll reserve those for another day. Right now, I need to focus on my PvP skills because I’m gonna start running my own guild event, entitled Warfront Wednesdays!
